Steve: "Probably A Fair Result"

Alex boss Steve Davis on a draw with Shrewsbury

Boss Steve Davis felt it was a point gained after Crewe Alexandra were held to a 1-1 draw by Shrewsbury Town at Gresty Road.  A Tom Hitchcock strike gave the Alex the lead in the first-half, only for Jon Taylor to level the scores in the second half.

Davis was disappointed with the manner of Shrewsbury’s goal, but was left encouraged after the Alex made it three games without defeat in League, although the Alex boss says there is still plenty of work to be done.

Speaking after the game, Steve told crewealex.net: “In the end it was probably a fair result. We had quite a few shots from distance in the second half but didn’t really create anything clear cut that could win the game for us.

“We are disappointed with the goal we have conceded because there are probably three or four mistakes in the goal. We warned the defenders at half-time about Taylor’s runs and we haven’t managed to track him. So that is disappointing that we managed to let them wear us down in the second-half.

“If we were going to get a goal in the second-half it was going to be a long-range goal and we wouldn’t be able to recreate the combination play that we produced for the goal in the first-half.

“I thought we were dangerous in the first-half, but there is still work to do because I don’t think we were quite threatening enough.”

Of course the game was overshadowed by an injury suffered by Adam Dugdale in the opening stages of the game. Dugdale suffered a heavy blow to the head in the early minutes of the game and was immediately rushed to hospital.

Steve said: “We still don’t really know what happened with Adam because of how difficult it was to see.  He has gone to hospital and we hope to hear some news soon. I thought everybody reacted very well to make sure he got treatment very quickly.”
