Steve: "Pleased to See It Through"

10 January 2015

Steve Davis pleased that his side found a killer third goal after an anxious second half.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis was pleased that his side saw a tough encounter through to claim their third win in four games. Two goals from Nicky Ajose and another from Uche Ikpeazu sealed the points against a spirited Gillingham side to see us move out of the bottom four.

After the 3-1 win, the Alex boss told crewealex.net: “Conditions were difficult and it made it scrappy at times. But we saw it through and I was pleased we got the third goal to kill the game off.

"We knew we'd go ahead of them in the league if we beat them, so we were pleased to go in at 2-0, it was a great ball by Jamie Ness for the second goal from the free-kick.

"They had their best spell after the restart, I thought Nicky (Ajose) would score his chance and made it 3-0 but they still had a chance and at 2-1 we became a bit nervous.

"It was difficult but they have to learn from those situations. We came through it and we got another goal. We had some luck but we haven't had much in the first part of the season.

"Uche (Ikpeazu) had three or four chances for himself and I was pleased he put that one away. I'm delighted with the points and it takes us out of the bottom four which us good.

"Hopefully we can keep looking up and leave the others behind. We have had four fantastic results now which have boosted confidence. We have tough games coming up but we'll look forward to it.

He added: "It is a great feeling even though we didn't play as well as we can, we worked hard and ground it out and got the result."
