Steve: "Overall Pleased"

Boss pleased with overall performance despite 1-0 defeat

Steve Davis was disappointed that a late goal from Wolves’ Dicko condemned his side to a successive pre-season defeat, but he was overall pleased with the way his side performed against last season’s League One champions.

The Railwaymen produced moments of good, passing football and were unlucky to see efforts from George Ray in the first half and Ollie Turton in the second period hit the woodwork.

Steve told crewealex.net: “I am always disappointed to lose any football match but I was pleased with the way we played and tried to pass the ball. I don’t think the late goal justified the overall game because we created arguably the better of the chances.

“We passed the ball better and I was pleased because Wolves are a quality side with quality players and they are difficult to play against. We had good spells of the ball, especially in the second half and we restricted them to only a handful of half chances really.

“Our shape was good and we carried out the orders very well until the final minute or two. Scott (Shearer) had been good up to then and he had made the right decisions throughout so it was a disappointing goal to concede late on, but something we can learn from.

“We had enough chances to have won the game but I was pleased with the performance and I think the supporters here can see that we are trying to play more football from the back and into midfield and the fitness levels were very good.

He added: “The players have worked very hard this week and we will crank it up again next week before we get ready for Fleetwood on the opening day of the season.”
