Steve: "I Would Like To Keep Some Loanees"

Steve Davis says he would like to keep some of his loan players but knows that finances will dictate

Steve Davis has admitted that he would love to keep some of his current loan players on a more permanent basis, but he says that the club couldn’t get close to their combined wages!  The Alex boss says his summer recruitment policy will be more based around quality rather than quantity and he appreciates the difference his five loan players have made this season.

The Alex boss admits that bringing in the likes of the experienced Alan Tate, the goals of Nicky Ajose and the creativity of Jamie Ness has helped transform our season going into 2015. A poor start to the campaign had left Crewe adrift of safety.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We are always looking at trying to add quality to the squad. I would like to keep some of the ones we already have here on loan but I couldn’t keep all of them. We couldn’t afford to do that because their wages combined would be excess of £20,000 a week!

“We would like to do something but it would have to be affordable to the club. The only thing we could offer them is regular football and an opportunity to play games every week.

He added: “Finances and budgets will dictate what we can do. I received a list of the players who are going out of contract this summer, and it is something like 800 players, so there are players out there and we will do our best to get the best we can. “
