Boss on his new goalkeeping recruit
Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis is glad to have a second goalkeeper on board to challenge Ben Garratt after completing the signing of free-agent Dave Richards.
The former Cardiff and Bristol City stopper joined the Club after impressing on a two-week trial period, featuring in the friendly victories at Newcastle Town, Blackburn Rovers and Kidsgrove Athletic.
Steve told crewealex.net: “We saw Dave over the last couple of weeks and it’s difficult to judge, but he ticks more of the boxes than the others we’ve had in.
“He knows that, coming here, he will get some game time at some point. The benefit of working with Fred to improve him was a big factor in that too and we’re looking forward to having him here.
“He’s at a good age and we want him to be pushing Ben hard and pushing him for a place in the team. We don’t want him here to be content with being the number two.”
