Steve: "Both Sides Were Fully Committed"

Boss gives us his reaction following point against promotion chasing Swindon

Steve Davis says his players gave everything they had to secure a point against Mark Cooper's promotion hunters Swindon. It was defences on top at Gresty Road with genuine chances few and far between but the Alex boss was pleased with his side's work ethic against the third placed Robins.

After an entertaining 0-0 draw, Steve told crewealex.net: “I don’t know how it finished 0-0 to be honest. Both sides had chances and didn’t take them, but I thought it was a great game to watch. It was end-to-end with both teams fully committed and that’s what I want from my team.

“It was just the final bit of quality and some good defending from both teams, but I couldn’t have asked for any more from the players.

“We worked very hard to achieve the point and the performance was back up there to win we were winning the games. On another day, we’d have won the game, but they might have won it as well. It was that type of game really.

“Sometimes the referees want to be the centre of the attention but the fans haven’t come here to see them and see players get booked for nothing. They come here to see 22 players playing good football. It wasn’t a dirty game in any respects and he’s given out a load of bookings and two red cards as well.

“I thought we had a goal in us. We thought about making subs earlier, but we felt what we had on there might just do it. We couldn’t have done any more with the way we went about the job and we were fully deserved of the point."
