Steve Davis delighted with his side's determination to get result

He added: “I’ve been saying the last four or five games how important the next one is and we’ve had to wait till the 12th game to get the second win, which is too long, but we were much better again today but now we need to build on it and put that intensity into all of our games.”

“He went up a notch again today and he’s looking like he belongs out there. He runs at players and he’s got two good feet and he’s now given us something with free-kicks and corners, so he’s actually become an important member of the team even at 17.

“I said to George, the practice we did on free-kicks yesterday was worth it and it paid off getting us that crucial second goal.

“Febian came to us and picked up a calf injury on the first day so we just haven’t been able to see enough of him.  We worked hard with him in the week and we felt that this was the right game to bring him in and he hurt them in behind. In the end he was absolutely out on his feet and we had to change it but he did really well and he was a real threat.

“They showed amazing fight and spirit, defended when they had to, cleared one off the line – which you have to do to win games. Everybody has worked very, very hard at Reaseheath this week to get a result like that today, so I’m pleased that work has paid off.

 “With being 2-0 up at half-time we spoke about how important the next period was and we didn’t do well in that period and we let them in to score. If there was a blot on today it was that first 15 minutes of the second half.

The Crewe manager was delighted with his side's performance, especially in that first half: “I’d forgotten what it feels like to win a game to be honest! I thought we fully deserved it. We approached the game with a really good tempo early on and caught them out a bit. Steve Davis praised his side's style and substance after they recorded their second league win of the season with a hard working display against Coventry. First half goals from Febian Brandy and George Cooper put Crewe firmly in the driving seat at the Alexandra Stadium and although the Sky Blues pulled a goal back just minutes into the second half via a free-kick, the Railwaymen held on for all three points.
