Steve: "I Am Amazed By What He Says He Saw"

30 January 2016

Steve Davis gives us his post match reaction from the New Den.

He added: "We are having a right go and the next step is to turn these draws into wins, but we have something to build on after becoming harder to beat and picking up those three successive draws."

"When you come to Millwall you need someone to be strong and focused and Brad has that. Coming to Millwall and getting a point is still a fantastic point regardless of what has gone on with the decisions today.

"We had half an hour to go after we scored but I thought we handled that well and it could well have been very different if the referee had got the two decisions right. That was our first penalty of the season. We do practice them every week so it was nice to finally get one. Brad was the best we had on the pitch to take him and he took it well.

"I think ours was a penalty for the foul on George. When they come out like that, they have to get there and the goalkeeper didn't. He didn't get out of the way, so its a certain penalty for me. It was close to the  edge of the box, it looked close but I did think it was inside and Brad took the penalty really well.

"I am disappointed because it could have cost us and the players didn't deserve to lose. They deserved their point so fortunately it has hit the point and we got our reward for a good performance.

"I am disappointed and amazed by the penalty decisions. I am amazed at what we see from 60 yards away to what they see from 10 yards away and all I will say is it happened at Wigan and it has happened again today. I think he was influenced by the crowd and bowed down to the pressure. He was influenced by the crowd today and the linesman gave the second one and he was further away than the referee, who didn't see it as handball.

"I was really pleased with the performance today, we kept possession well at times but didn't quite have those real clear cut chances.

Following the 1-1 draw, Steve Davis told the club's official web-site: "I think the point was justified because we battled and competed well again and deserved it. We played some really good football at times as well and created some opportunities without being quite clinical enough.

Steve Davis was proud of his players performance at the New Den as his hard working side collected a well earned point but he also felt aggrieved that it could have been three points after the award of two dubious penalites for the home side. Thankfully, for Crewe, Lee Gregory missed the chance to win the game with just over five minutes to go when his spot kick hit the post.
