Steve: "A Great Day For Us. Work To Be Done Though"

25 April 2015

Boss gives his post match reaction from the Ricoh Arena following 3-1 win.

"I said for a long time that it would go to the last game and we knew we would need more than the 50 points this season. It has taken us longer than we would have wanted to go beyond that mark and now we have to concentrate on next week and making sure we stay above that line."

"We knew they would come at us and to be fair they did. They are a strong and powerful side and we knew we had to stand up to that. We did that and they were terrific, all of them. I was delighted for the fans, the staff, the players and everyone associated with the club. It was a fantastic day for us but we have got to complete the job next week.

"We needed the luxury of that third goal and it was a really well worked goal from us. It was an important goal at an important time. We needed that security and it was a great cross from Ollie to the far post. We have been telling Marcus to get in that position because that is where he does his most damage and I was delighted for him.

"Lauri Dalle Valle scored a real poachers' goal and that is what he does. He gets right in there and tucks those chances away in the six-yard box.

"We started with Ryan in behind but very quickly we could see they wanted the full-backs to get high up the pitch and we went with a flat three up front. Ryan is one of ours and is a match winner. He is capable of producing something out of nothing. He has created one and scored one. His finish was excellent. He came on to it and he tucked it away. That is what he is capable of and he dispatched it really well.

"We have done our bit. We approached the game wanting to win the game and then see what they did to us afterwards. We also needed one or two results to go our way to be safe today, but our objective was to win the game. We have achieved that and the players stuck to the game plan superbly. We have to do it again next weekend.

"It was a tremendous spectacle from our point of view and that sea of red in the away end made a difference to us. It isn't over though and we have prepare for next week and make sure we are ready physically and mentally.

Steve Davis was delighted with his side's performance under pressure as they ran out deserving 3-1 winners at Coventry City. Goals from LDV, Coco and Marcus Haber sealed another memorable result at the Ricoh Arena. After the battle to remain in League One, Steve Davis told the club's official web-site: "I am delighted for the supporters and it is a fantastic day for us but there is still some work to do next week against Bradford City.
