Alex boss gives his post-match reaction following 4-1 defeat at the Matchroom

"As I've been saying for a while now, when you are not scoring enough goals then it does increase the pressure on the back lads to keep it out and that is often the difference, especially when that first goal is so crucial regardless at whatever level you play at."

"The difference was in the forwards, especially when Mooney came on as well. Dagnall was good for them, his movement was very good and he is prepared to go wide and we didn't handle that well enough today.

"Of course when you are not scoring an abundance of goals and struggling to score two or three in game then you have to be tight and try and keep those clean-sheets. We have been defending better lately and we got punished by two fantastic goals for the first two. The second one from Dagnall is a fantastic finish and the later two were on the break.

"The spirit and hard work they showed gives us a chance. I said to them afterwards that the spirit we have in this group can carry us through this season. It remains strong and we have got to go again.

"We then got a goal back through a great strike from Granty and their goalkeeper has made a fantastic save to deny Nessy to make it 3-2. They then broke away again to make it 4-1 when we were chasing the game. I think the scoreline flattered them a bit today and I was pleased with the way we kept going and kept trying to get back into the game. If one or two of those chances had dropped to us or we had tucked one away then it could have changed the game but that was the difference.

"We had a go to try and get a goal before half-time but we couldn't manage that. I was disappointed with the way we began the second half because we didn't impose ourselves on them as much as I would have liked but we kept going. The third goal is a bit cruel on us and I didn't think we deserved that.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis couldn't understand how his recent tight defence went on to concede four goals at Leyton Orient this afternoon in a result that did somewhat flattered the O's. Crewe were actually very much in the game at 2-0 and then 3-1, but conceded goals at crucial times of the game. Following the 4-1 defeat at the Mathroom Stadium, the Alex boss told the club's official web-site: "I thought we were the better side for the opening 20 minutes and looked the more likely side to nick a goal. Our football was decent and we had a lot of the possession. We couldn't find that breakthrough and I think they scored two goals with their first two real attempts at our goal.
