Spirit Remains Sky High

30 July 2014

Steve Davis is full of praise for his close knit group of players

Steve Davis says that the spirit in the Crewe Alexandra camp remains extremely high and that his squad are all pulling in the right direction ahead of the new season. Davis recently demonstrated his desire to construct a close knit squad when he agreed to the departure of Mathias Pogba once he made it plain he wanted to leave the club. With Pogba expressing an interest to leave for pastures new in Italy, the Crewe boss didn’t hesitate to sanction his immediate sale.

After having to cope with great adversity last summer, Davis says the club is in much better shape going into this season.

He said: “The spirit inside the club is much better. It is much better than last summer for obvious reasons and you can see the real togetherness between them. It has been apparent all summer.

“They are all working really hard and buying it into what we do and that is the most important thing.

“They are working hard for each other and it is important that we remain a team. The best teams are not made up on individuals. Those individuals and match winners have to perform but you only win games as a team.

“Take Germany at the World Cup, they won the trophy in the end because they were a magnificent team. They worked for each other and were not relying on an individual to get them through like Brazil were with Neymar or Argentina with Messi.

“The Germans willingness to work hard for each other, their organisation and effort was spot on and that is why they are World Champions.

The Crewe manager added: “We know that need to strengthen our squad and we will but the spirit is here and I couldn’t ask for any more from the group in terms of their effort.”
