Sir Bobby Wants Your 1966 Memories

24 February 2016

England to celebrate historic World Cup victory at the National Football Museum.

There is no question about it - no other anniversary in English football, indeed English sport, has the significance of 1966. It marked a high point in English international football which has not been matched since.

In recognition of this iconic year in English sport I am very proud to support the Memories of ’66 Heritage Project, being launched by the National Football Museum in Manchester and funded by both The Football Association and the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The project will gather memories about 1966 - the year England hosted and won the World Cup. These memories will be collected in partnership with the Sporting Memories Network (SMN), a charity that works nationally with older people to bring about health and well-being benefits through celebrating memories of sport.

I am writing to you, as supporters of Crewe Alexandra F.C. and of English football, for your memories, photographs and memorabilia of ‘66 to help us create a lasting legacy of this most special year.

The highlights will feature in a major exhibition to open at the National Football Museum in Manchester on 25 June and an exhibition at Wembley in time for the 50th anniversary of the tournament in July.

If you were there in 1966 and would like to contribute to this unique project please submit your memories to:- Memoriesof66@nationalfootballmuseum.com

Yours sincerely

Sir Bobby
