Shearer Joins Burton On Loan

Goalkeeper moves to Burton in quest for first-team action

Crewe Alexandra goalkeeper Scott Shearer has joined Burton Albion on loan until the end of the season. The 33-year-old has agreed to join Jimmy Floyd HasseLbaink’s promotion chasing side after finding it difficult to hold down a regular place in the Crewe side.

Shearer began the season in the Crewe Alexandra side for the opening day at newly promoted Fleetwood Town and featured against Barnsley for our first home game before losing his place to Ben Garratt.

Shearer’s only other first-team appearance came against Rochdale in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat at Gresty Road.

The former Albion and Coventry City youngster, who joined Crewe in the summer on a free transfer from Rotherham United, has continued to be a regular for the Elite Development Squad.

The Scotsman has made over 300 first appearances over the course of his 14-year career.

The departure of Shearer will now prompt Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis to look for a loan goalkeeper to offer cover and competition to the in-form Garratt during the January transfer window.

Everyone would like to wish Scott every success with his loan.
