Boss says Rotherham repeat in attack would give us a chance against O's

Steve Davis is hoping that his improving side can rise to the occasion this weekend and give Russell Slade’s promotion chasing side a real scare. The Alex will start as underdogs as is Leyton Orient’s exceptional form this season but the Crewe Alexandra boss is confident that if his team can repeat a similar performance to that at Rotherham last weekend, we have every chance of getting something against the O's at Gresty Road. Orient will be hoping to remain in the automatic promotion places and will arrive in South Cheshire on the back on an emphatic 4-0 win over Carlisle.

Crewe eventually lost 4-2 to the Millers last weekend, but the two-goal difference did flatter Steve Evans’s side considering that we missed a penalty, had one dubiously awarded against us and Chuks Aneke had two decent chances to square the match at 3-3.

Steve was pleased with the overall performance and the chances we managed to create at the New York Stadium and he wants us to take that into our second home game of 2014.

Ahead of the Rotherham game, Steve told us: “We always respect the opposition and we know how good Leyton Orient have been this season. They have been one of the most consistent teams in the division and are right up there competing with some big clubs for an automatic promotion spot.

“We know it will be a tough game but we will prepare right and give it our best, like we always do. We will plan accordingly and we won’t be sitting back hoping for things to happen, we will give a real go.

“We are performing well enough and have perhaps not always got what we deserved or wanted. That was the case at Rotherham and they knew they had to work hard to beat us last week. We had chances to have got something from the game and if we can repeat that performance then we have every chance of getting something from the game.

He added: “The one thing we have got to aim to be is tighter at the back. We have gone to Rotherham, scored two, missed a penalty and missed some good chances but still conceded four goals.”
