Remaining Upbeat Over Ajose

Alex boss hopeful that Ajose will return on loan from Leeds

Steve Davis is hoping he will receive positive news from Leeds United in regards to extending the loan arrangement for striker Nicky Ajose.

The former Manchester United trainee has scored three goals during his loan spell with the club, including a match winning brace against Oldham Athletic on Boxing Day.

Ajose has now returned to Leeds and is keen to clarify his future as soon as possible at the beginning of the window after failing to hold down a regular place at Elland Road.

Davis has told the club’s official web-site that Ajose is keen to remain at Gresty Road and continue to play first-team football.

“I’ve spoken to Nicky and I have spoken to Neil Redfearn (Leeds United manager) this morning and that was positive, ‘said Steve.

“Leeds know that we want to keep Nicky longer and Nicky wants to stay. He is enjoying it. He is playing and contributing and hopefully something can be sorted sooner rather than later.

“Of course, the decision does rest with Leeds. He is their player and we will have to be patient.

“We know what Nicky wants to do and hopefully we can do something as soon as possible because all Nicky wants to do is play football.

He added: “We knew how frustrating it was in the summer when we couldn’t get the players in we wanted and we had to wait.

“We do have some back up plans in place if Nicky doesn’t come back but at the moment we are only focussed on him coming back here. We are all working hard on it to try and do that.”
