Midfielder beginning to control games

Steve Davis, the Crewe Alexandra manager has told the club’s official web-site that his captain Luke Murphy is beginning to dictate the pace of matches. Davis says he is expecting the 22-year-old midfielder to be the main man at the Alexandra Stadium, in the wake of Ashley Westwood’s move to Aston Villa.

After Murphy had opened the scoring at Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night, Davis told crewealex.net: “Murph is showing that consistency now and is beginning to dictate the pace of games like I expect him to.

“He is controlling games better now and getting on the ball and as a manager I know what to expect from him and what I am going to get from him.

“He scored a real poachers goal to get on the rebound from Max’s shot on Tuesday and we have been encouraging him to add goals to his game. He was very instinctive there and it was a good finish.

He added: “He also had a great shot that hit the bar and he is beginning to be a goal threat because he has that ability to find space to get shots off. We have really been encouraging him to do that more often and hopefully we will see more goals from him.”
