Quality Not Quantity This Summer

Steve after quality additions to improve us

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he is after 'real quality rather than quantity' this summer. The Alex boss admits that the club’s recruitment of players has to improve and he is targeting three or four quality players who could make a real difference to our starting XI either on permanent or loan contracts.

The Alex boss is quick to stress that this period of the closed season as a large number of players are released at the end of their contracts and are assessing their options before they decide the next destination.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We would like to add three or four players of real quality, who we know would make a difference to us and compliment the players we already have here.

“I will be looking for quality rather than quantity and with every transfer or loan, they are a gamble. You never know quite what you are getting until you get them in. It is difficult to get them all right and we are the first to admit here that our recruitment could have been better over the last couple of years.

“I think the fans here understand that it is not that easy to bring players in. They have agents and other options and it usually comes down to what is available to them on the table.

“All you can do is talk to them, gauge if they are interested and then make them the best possible offer you can. You have to be as pro-active as you can be and although it is quiet at the moment, we are setting realistic targets.

“We are after players that will improve us and if that means being a bit patient then we will be. There is no point rushing into things, signing the first three players that come along and then pack up and go on holiday. They have to be right for us and we will do our best to get the best we can.”
