Boss happy to see his foorward getting back to his best

Steve Davis has praised forward Mathias Pogba after the former Wrexham man helped the Alex to a 2-1 win over Shrewsbury Town in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

After missing nearly a month with injury, Pogba is still only just returning to full fitness, but Davis was delighted with the way the big man caused real problems for the Shrewsbury defence on a good night for the Alex.

‘Pogs’ set up Max Clayton for Crewe’s all important second goal at the Greenhous Meadow and worked tirelessly throughout the game.

Speaking after the game, Davis was full of praise for his summer signing: “Pogs really put in a shift today. His effort was terrific and I have no qualms about that – he gives everything he has got in every game.

“He just needs to add that little bit of quality in the game. He has slipped in to a few of his bad habits which he had from his Wrexham days, but maybe that is because he was out for a while.

“We just need to keep on working with him. He did really well for Max’s goal tonight, and if he can continue to work hard on the training ground he will become a better player and be an important part of the team.”
