Davis says summer signing will only get better with training

Mathias Pogba will only improve as a player with the more training he has at Crewe Alexandra, according to his manager Steve Davis. The summer signing from Wrexham has recently returned from an ankle injury and was arguably our top performer at Portsmouth at the weekend as our main front man.

Pogba, 22, started his Crewe career in superb fashion by scoring 8 goals in pre-season and then a brace on his full debut against Hartlepool in the League Cup. He has gone on to notch a further two goals but with the injury, hasn’t scored since the end of August.

Steve has been impressed with the striker’s work ethic and the important role he has played in the team: “Pogbs is getting his match fitness and sharpness back and that will be important to us.

“No-one can fault his effort and work ethic in the games. He is terrific and works so hard for the team. His quality may not be there all the time but that will improve with the work he does here. He always gives 100% and is eager to learn, so he has a bright future if he continues to work hard.

“He will add quality to his game and grow here because he is still young and has gone up a couple of leagues as well. He will become a better player with us with the individual and collective training we do. I’m sure he will score goals here.”
