What the press made of the history making victory at Vale Park

CREWE made history by doing the league double over Port Vale for the first time in their history with a 1-0 at Vale Park in a thrilling derby encounter.
The Alex had to weather a late onslaught from the hosts to claim the three points, but a first-half Nicky Ajose goal proved the difference.
Ajose scored after a lovely through ball from Jamie Ness, having seen an earlier penalty saved by Vale stopper Chris Neal.
Vale dominated the second half, and pushed hard for a leveller, but Crewe held on for a priceless three points.

PORT Vale chairman Norman Smurthwaite was understandably exasperated to learn that there might not be enough Crewe supporters to cover his police and security bill, although not letting travelling fans into Saturday’s game would have been rather an extreme solution.
Mind you, Vale might look into banning the Crewe team for future derbies because the Alex's record at Vale Park is getting beyond a joke.
That’s eight wins and a draw in their last 11 appearances in Burslem. With that sort of run it’s a wonder the Alex don’t apply to play the rest of their home games at Vale Park and book the Valiant Suite for their end-of-season awards.
