Pompey Have Great Spirit

Alex boss previews the visit of Portsmouth

Steve Davis envisages a tough encounter against a spirited Portsmouth side tomorrow. Guy Whittingham’s Pompey side are currently struggling at the bottom of the League One table having endured a winless run of 23 games, but Davis says that the 2008 FA Cup winners can still surprise a shock and are more than capable of picking up points.

They held promotion hopefuls MK Dons to a 1-1 draw ion Tuesday and Davis says that his side will have to improve on their own performance at Hartlepool if we are going to get back to winning ways.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Portsmouth have had troubles all season and the turnaround of players has been incredible. They have continued to bring in as good a player as they can get and still have some good players there.

“A lot of players have come and gone and of course everything has been unsettled for them but they will be a united group and the pressure is off them. They have worked hard, and although haven’t won for a while have picked up points along the way.

“They have a great spirit there and so do their fans. It will be a hard game and Guy, his staff and his players won’t be giving up.

There are no easy games at this level and it won’t be against Portsmouth regardless of what is happening off the pitch.

The boss added: “All we can do is concentrate on our own performance and make sure there is no repeat of Tuesday night.”
