Pogba To Face Vics

Mathias could make long awaited return in Cheshire Senior Cup tie

Mathias Pogba could make his long awaited return for the club against Northwich Victoria in the Cheshire Senior Cup on Tuesday evening. The striker has not played this season after suffering a cruciate knee ligament against Manchester United in pre-season but the former Wrexham man is available for selection again after six months out.

Crewe take on Vics at Flixton’s Ground on Tuesday night with a 7.45pm kick-off. Tickets are priced at £7 for adults, £5 for concessions and £2 for juniors.

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he was close to recalling Pogba for the visit of Carlisle United on New Years’ Day but elected not to name him among the substitutes for the club’s 2-1 win.

Steve said: “I seriously considered naming Pogs on the bench because I thought it would give everyone a psychological lift to have him back with us. I thought that if the other players and the fans saw him warming up it would have given them a lift.

“It would certainly have done that at 2-1 and the reasons would have been for that, but I didn’t think it would have been fair to him or us if he needed to go on inside the first five minutes. He has worked really hard and we have the Cheshire Senior Cup game on Tuesday so he will get some minutes on the pitch.”
