Boss confirms that Mathias Pogba has had surgery in Italy on torn muscle

Crewe Alexandra can confirm that last season’s leading scorer Mathias Pogba has undergone surgery on his torn thigh muscle, but the 16-goal hit-man should be fit to resume pre-season training at the end of June.

Pogba suffered a grade 2 tear when chasing a long ball down against Preston North End on East Monday. The injury ruled him out of that weekends’ trip to Wembley to contest the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final against Southend United and for the remainder of the season.

Pogba underwent the surgery Italy and will return to the country to continue his rehabilitation with the surgeon who conducted the operation over the next couple of weeks. He has been assessed by our club physio Rob Sharp. 

Steve Davis told crewealex.net: “Mathias suffered a grade two tear in his thigh and he and his agents wanted him to have surgery in Italy with a specialist. We were fine with that and he has had that now.

“He has been over to be checked out by Rob (Sharp) and he is fine with it. He will return to Italy shortly to undergo more rehab with the surgeon who conducted the operation. It is common practice for foreign players, especially in Italy and France to have surgery for this type of injury. In Britain, we are perhaps more cautious but we were fine with it and Rob has been kept informed.

“Mathias is on a crutch at the moment but we are sure he will be fine and will return for pre-season training on schedule.”
