Players Will Handle The Pressure

6 October 2015

Steve Davis says his players are equipped to handle playing under the pressure of securing that first home win.

Steve Davis believes his players can handle the pressure of trying to secure that first home win of the season.

Crewe Alexandra are hosting Wigan Athletic in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy this evening and Davis feels it would provide the perfect platform to get that first win against one of the favourites for the competition.

Davis wants his players to express themselves in front of the home support and says they have to learn from the experience of trying to play throughout a difficult run of results.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Of course, the longer you don’t win at home the more it can affect you. That is human nature and it could affect the confidence of some players but football is all about pressure and dealing with that pressure.

“They have to overcome that and deal with it. I didn’t think there was that nervousness on Saturday that I had felt at times in the Southend game. They played well at the weekend and played with a real fluency in their play, especially up to and after our goal. We were excellent and that is the level we are striving for on a more consistent basis.

“At no stage did I think that the Chesterfield game was away from us. At no point did I think we were going to lose it but we did because of two mistakes and we have to get on with it.”
