Permanent Midfielder Is Top Target

Alex boss after midfield reinforcement in transfer window

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he is looking to bring in another midfield player on a permanent basis. Davis has made a new central midfielder his main transfer target in the next transfer window after surviving with just two senior players in Luke Murphy and Abdul Osman, with youngster Ollie Turton as first back-up. Davis has been checking out midfield players ever since he thought he would lose his former captain Ash Westwood in the last window and with the Crewe lad joining Aston Villa, someone to fill his shoes has become a priority.

Steve told crewealex. net: “I bought Abdul in during the pre-season because I felt we could lose Westy in the window. That proved to be a shrewd move because that is what happened but we are still short in that area.

“I would like to bring in another one and we are looking around. I don’t really want another young one because I have Ollie (Turton) here and he is our own. I would prefer to bring someone in with a bit of experience and on a permanent basis.

“I’ve been offered a number of younger ones on loan but that is not I’m looking for. We could do with one of our own but it is not easy because they sometimes want to stay at the club they are at and fight for their place or we cannot match their wage demands.

“We have to try and find the right one and I’ve spoken to John (Bowler, chairman) about it and the board will back me if we can find or two to bolster the squad. They appreciate that we could do with another one in there.

He added: “I am looking ahead and perhaps we will be able to do something in January.”
