Gaffer says he wants his players to try and get safe as quickly as possible

Steve Davis says he isn’t particularly interested in statistics when it comes to home or away form or our inferior goal difference. The Alex boss is full focussed on the seven games remaining games and the 21 points still available to us, to make sure we are playing Sky Bet League One football again next season.

Crewe will be looking to build on a superb first ever win at Bramall Lane last weekend by following that up with a positive result over Crawley this coming Friday. The Railwaymen suffered a blip in their impressive home form against Oldham Athletic last time out, but it was only the second defeat at Gresty Road since late October and the boss is confident that we can get back to winning ways against his pal Dean Saunders and his Crawley side.

Speaking ahead of the Good Friday fixture, Steve told us: “I am not particularly interested in the stats or what has gone before at the moment. There are seven games left and we are aiming to get as many points as we can. That is all I’m focussed on.

“I want us to get as many points as we can to be safe. I want us to try and do that as quickly as we can. If we need to get those points on the final day of the season then we will have to go out and do it again.

Steve added: “The only thing we are looking to do is to safeguard our League One status again and then build from there because I don’t want us to be battling against relegation every season. We want to be doing better than that but this league is tough and we will have to work hard to survive. “
