Crewe Alexandra recorded their eight win out of nine matches in pre-season with a 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town last night, but manager Steve Davis is not getting carried away and is demanding improvement from his players. Adam Dugdale
scored the only goal of the game after 17 minutes against the Championship new boys and Crewe were defensively sound throughout with Alan Martin hardly called into action.
It was another encouraging warm up game but Davis has stressed that that is all it was and he is still looking for more as we prepared for our return to League One.
The Alex boss told crewealex.net: “All the players are keen to do well for themselves and for the club and there is a real enthusiasm to make an impact and impress. They have all approached thing the right way and their attitude has been spot on.
“There is room for improvement though and I think they all have to improve a bit to prove that they are good enough to become good League One players. It is a step up for them and that is the challenge for them.
“It is the same for everyone. It is a challenge for Neil (Baker) and myself. We will be up against better teams, better players and better managers but we are all looking forward to it.
“We want the players to have that pressure and respond to it. We did that last season and they responded superbly. We want that same intensity.”
