Not Enough Quality Today

Steve Davis gives us his reaction to our 1-0 defeat to Yeovil

He added: "We thought Yeovil could be a threat from a set play mainly because of the height of their centre-halves and so it proved. Their big man has reacted quicker than us at a corner and stuck it in and it was a disappointing goal for us to concede again. Saying that Alan (Martin) didn't have a lot to do and I thought we were reasonably solid at the back and dealt with their threat well."

"If we can find someone then it could make a difference because it will give a few of them a kick up the backside and that is probably what a few of them need at the moment.

"I had three centre-halves on the bench, goalkeeper Steve Phillips, Brendon, who could make a difference, and young Harry Clayton, who is not ready yet. We had him filling the bench because I didn't have anyone else. It is something I will talk over with Neil (Baker) over the weekend and we may look to bring one or two in. It isn't easy but if we can find someone who could improve us and make a difference to us then we will look to it. The chairman has already given us the go-ahead for that if we need to.

"We created some chances but not enough and we didn't look like we were going to score unless Byron got in like he did against Swindon on Tuesday night. We have to show more than we did. The effort was there from the players but we just lacked that real quality, especially in the final third of the pitch. It was another blank from us and it is difficult to change it when we have AJ and Max out.

After the final whistle, a disappointed Davis told Crewe Alex.net: "We are too inconsistent at the moment and we carried a few again today. It was only Bryon out of our front four that looked as though he was going to hurt them. The rest of the attack were off the pace and need to be doing better if we are going to create chances and score enough goals.
Steve Davis says his Crewe Alexandra side have to show more consistency if we are going to make a mark in League One. The Alex slipped to a 1-0 home defeat by Yeovil Town this afternoon after towering defender Bryon Webster reacted quickest at a corner to shoot into the roof of the Crewe net.
