Max Will Develop With Us

Boss says youngster is only focussed on improving with Crewe

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he is delighted that Max clayton got back amongst the goals against Shrewsbury on Tuesday night but that the club’s teenage star is not yet ready to follow Ash Westwood or Nick Powell into the Premier League.

Davis wants the talented 18-year-old to continue to learn his trade at his local club and says that Clayton will deserve a move to the big time when it happens. In the meantime, he wants the England youth striker to continue to develop at the Alexandra Stadium.

Steve told crewealex.net: “I was pleased for Max when he scored on Tuesday because he had been a bit anxious. He works hard at his game and desperately wants to do well for the club, so he deserves everything he gets.

“He has worked hard at his finishing and constantly wants to improve and get better. We have been delighted with him and the goals will come.

“He has got that one at Shrewsbury and that will give him confidence. I would imagine there are scouts watching him, like other players in our squad and that is to be expected because we produce good young players.

Steve added: “Max doesn’t take much notice of the speculation and neither do we. He is still finding his feet with us and learning his trade here. We don’t want him to go and be part of some club’s development squad, we want him to be ready to go into a first-team squad. He is playing first team here and developing with us.”
