Max: "I Need To Be More Ruthless"

Young striker aiming to get back on goal trail

rewe Alexandra’s talented youngster Max Clayton says he has to become more ruthless in front of goal to help the club return to winning ways. Clayton was left out of Tuesday night’s 2-0 home defeat by Oldham and in truth our chances have not been falling at the feet of the Crewe-born teenager of late.C

Clayton, 18, started the season with a brace against Hartlepool United in the Capital One Cup and he followed that up with the winner against Coventry, but he has now gone a month without hitting the back of the net and an honest Clayton wants that to change and fast.

Max told the club’s official web-site: “I made a good start to the season and on a personal note won the young player award, but as a striker you are judged on your goals and I need to score more.

“As I came through the Academy system, I was used to playing well and scoring goals for the team. I think I have played relatively well but I need to be scoring more goals. I need to be more ruthless.

“I am sure when I get one and the other lads start scoring again then we will be fine and push on. We are creating some chances but have just not been clinical enough in recent weeks. I’m sure that will turn around soon.

“It has been a step up from League Two for everyone but I think we have adjusted fairly well.”
