Coco and Davis making great progress in bid to be back for September

Steve Davis does not expect long term absentees Ryan Colclough and Harry Davis to be ready for the seasonal kick off, but says that if they can get back at the end of August, beginning of September then it would be a major boost.

Both players have been out jogging around the club’s training ground complex and Davis has been pleased with their recent progress. Harry Davis is making steady progress from his knee injury while a week at St. George’s Park has certainly given Colclough a lift. The talented winger has not played first team football since a brief substitute appearance against Port Vale back in November.

Colclough had made a bright start to last season but a nasty fall on his hip bone against Accrington Stanley in early September later led to him needing surgery to correct a double hernia. The return of the 19-year-old would be a major boost for the club.

Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “We still have the two longer term injuries but both Harry and Ryan are making good progress. They have been out jogging around the perimeter of the training ground and are getting stronger each day.

“Harry lost a lot of muscle around his knee and he is building that back up. If he doesn’t suffer any set-backs then he shouldn’t be far off. I don’t expect him to be ready for the start of the season but it would be a bonus to have him back for the beginning of September.

“That is also the case with Ryan. He has missed almost nine months of football and that is a long time for any footballer to miss. It has been really frustrating for him but he can see light at the end of the tunnel.

“He has spent some time at St. George’s Park and has been working hard. If we could include him just weeks into the new season then that would obviously improve us if he can show the sort of form he did at the beginning of last season.”
