Bos says winger has learnt a harsh life lesson

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis believes his latest summer signing Lee Molyneux will add a goal threat from midfield. Molyneux signed a two-year deal with Crewe Alexandra after his contract with Accrington Stanley ended, and Davis is delighted to have landed a player with an obvious point to prove.

The 24-year-old showed his ability to score goals after being converted from a left-back into a winger at Accrington and he will offer something from dead-ball situations as well. Crewe have struggled to score directly from a free-kick over the last few years.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We had spoken to Lee about his future and gave him the option of coming here if things didn’t happen for him at Accrington. Now that his contract at Accrington finished, we are delighted that he has chosen to come here.

“He had a terrific end to the season and his goals went a long way in keeping Accrington up and preserving their league status. He had a big impact for them and has shown that he can score goals and offer us something from free-kicks as well, because we don’t tend to score from them.

“Lee had a lot of potential as a young player with Everton and Southampton. He was a part of the England youth set-up as well, but he just lost his way.

“We have spoken to him about that part of his life and he is determined to put the wrongs right. He made a terrible mistake but everyone makes mistakes in their life and he is determined to do well for himself and for his family.

The boss added: “He just wants to put things as right as he can and concentrate on his football. He did really well at Accrington and scored some great goals for them. We saw what he was capable of and now it is up to him to shown that he can reproduce that type of form at a higher level.”
