Last Day Experience Will Help

28 April 2015

Steve says last day heroics against Preston will only help his players.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says last season’s final day experience against Preston North End will only benefit the club going into this Sunday’s final game of the season against Bradford City. Crewe have their destiny in their own hands and need a final day victory to make absolute certain of survival in League One.

Last season, Crewe needed to defeated play-off Preston North End on the final day of the season to survive in League One and goals from Adam Dugdale and Mathias Pogba helped us to a famous 2-1 win.

Davis says the experience will only benefit the players and staff who were involved in that particular escape from relegation.

Steve told crewealex.net: “It is a similar scenario to last season. We have to focus on our own performance and prepare for whatever might happen.

“Many of us here have been here before and we can use that experience. We can prepare better because we know what to expect. We thought it might come down to the final game again and I’ve been saying that for a while. We thought it might go to the wire because of the number of teams down there with us.

“In many ways this season has followed a trend and we have had to play catch up again after a poor start to the season. That is something I will have to look at.

He added: “It is similar to last season when we had Preston. We are up against quality opposition again with Bradford coming and the players will have to perform to get the result we need. They were under that same pressure at Coventry and came through it very well and know we need them to do it again.”
