Guthrie tragets morale boosting cup win

Jon Guthrie has told Crewe Alex Player that he hopes that a morale boosting win over Championship side Bolton Wanderers in the League Cup will act as the spur to kick start our League campaign.

Guthrie regained his place in the starting line-up for the trip to Swindon Town on Saturday and he put in a fine display despite our 2-0 defeat to Mark Cooper’s side. Now the youngster is hoping he can continue to establish himself in Steve Davis’ first-team plans going forward as he battles for a place alongside the on-loan Manchester City youngster Greg Leigh.

Ahead of your Capital One Cup tie against Bolton Wanderers, Jon said: “It was nice to have a recall to the team on Saturday, but as a team we were disappointed with the way the game went. We lost the game and didn’t have much of an edge going forward.

“From an individual perspective, I didn’t want to be out of the team and now I don’t want to go our again. I know I have to play as well as I can to keep my place in the team.

“The Bolton game is one to look forward to and we are looking to win the game. The spirit is good in the club and I think it just a case of getting that first league win. If we can put out a club who play in a higher league then that is only going to help the confidence.”
