Having Trio Back Will Be Massive Boost

27 May 2015

Neil Baker says any club would miss the talent of Tootle, Coco and Garratt

Neil Baker says that Crewe Alexandra will be handed a major boost if club captain Matt Tootle and winger Ryan Colclough agree new deals this summer and having a fit Ben Garratt will also make a difference to us. Garratt missed the last two months of the season after breaking his leg away at Barnsley in February. His performances prior to that saw him claim both the supporters and players, player-of-the-season award at the end of the campaign.

Tootle suffered an ankle injury in October and only returned to the squad to sit on the bench away at Peterborough United in April. Tootle has never missed many matches before his injury this season and the club are trying to convince him to remain here and regain the form that saw him named Player of the Season in 2014.

Colclough also endured a frustrating season after missing almost 18 months of football with a hernia and hip problem. The 20-year-old returned from injury for the decisive run-in and scored crucial goals away at Sheffield United and Coventry City to help us stay in League One.

Assistant manager Baker says that any club in League One would suffer after losing three of their most talented players through injury.

“I think losing Matt and Ryan for a large period is a factor. We also lost Ben at a crucial time of the season and any club at any level would find it tough to lose three of their most talented players, ‘says Neil.

“Both Matt and Ryan have had a difficult time with injuries and if we can keep them here and get them out on the pitch then that would make a massive difference to us.

Bakes added: “Ben will be fit for the pre-season and our number one goalkeeper, so that is also a massive boost for us heading into the new season.”
