Defender could be included in travelling squad for Walsall trip

Harry Davis could be in contention for a return to the Crewe Alexandra squad this weekend after getting through his third reserve game at Swansea City yesterday. The centre-half has recently returned to fitness after missing the last six months with a knee injury.

Manager Steve Davis will assess the fitness of the defender this week before deciding on whether to take him to the Banks’s Stadium this weekend.

Crewe have recently played with three centre-halves and Davis may be included in the squad as cover for any of the three. If Steve Davis changes his formation for the weekend then he could yet leave the 23-year-old out of the reckoning.

Crewe led 1-0 at Swansea through Callum Saunders but ended up losing the game after conceding two second half goals.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “H (Harry) came through his third game and managed the 90 minutes. He has told me he felt okay and that is a bonus for us.

“He has played three games in a short spell of time and he has been back training with us for a number of weeks now. He is a fine and has had no reaction.

He added: “I would think he is close to declaring him available again and he will assess him this week. It could be that we introduce him back into the squad this weekend, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
