Davis on his latest summer signing Anthony Grant

Steve Davis is delighted to have signed midfielder Anthony Grant on a two-year deal after he mutually left Stevenage.

Grant, 26, has always been impressive against the Railwaymen for his former club and Southend United previously, and the Crewe Alexandra boss is confident that the former Chelsea trainee will help fill void left by Luke Murphy.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Anthony is a player we have always liked and have always been impressed with. He is one we have kept tabs on for a long time, but him being a Londoner, we were unsure if he was prepared to move north.

“He has been based in the south all his career so we were delighted to learn that he was prepared to move up here. He has really keen to come up and he has certainly not come for the money. He has taken a hit to come to Crewe, so that goes to show that he has come here for football reasons.

“I think the way we play football has been attractive for him. Perhaps he has been asked to play a different way at his previous clubs, but we know he is a very good player and will adapt to a new way of playing.

He added: “He will have licence to get forward, create and score goals and although he won’t be a direct replacement for Luke Murphy, because he is impossible to place for us, he has plenty of character and a terrific engine on him.”
