Ben Garratt is on crutches but he attended Saturday's game to support his team-mates

Ben Garratt will not need his broken tibia to be fitted with a cast or contained in a supportive boot, but the Crewe Alexandra goalkeeper is on currently on crutches. Garratt attended Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Swindon to offer his support to his Alex team-mates.

The Crewe number one is expected to be out for between 6-8 weeks and it remains unlikely that he will play again this season.

Steve Davis gave the club’s official web-site an update: “Ben is fine and will not need to be in a cast or wear a boot.

“He does need to keep pressure off his leg and will be on crutches but we will still be able to work in the gym.

“He will have the chance to work on his upper body strength and that can be important to him in the future.

He added: “It could have been a lot worse and a clean break will mean it will heal naturally.”
