Gaffer On Ray Injury

7 October 2015

Steve Davis hoping that Ray's cheekbone injury is not as bad as it looked.

Alex defender George Ray was taken straight to Leighton Hospital last night for an immediate X-ray after he suffered a hefty blow to his cheekbone during the second half against Wigan Athletic.

Ray was replaced by James Baillie and Crewe had to reshuffle their entire back-line with Jon Guthrie moving across to centre-half and Ollie Turton switching to left-back to allow Baillie to come on in is natural position of right back.

Alex boss Steve Davis told crewealex.net: “George took a hefty knock on his cheekbone and there is a lot of swelling there. He went straight to Leighton Hospital to have an X-ray and we will have to see what the damage is there.

“He came round very quickly and wasn’t out for very long. Once that swelling has gone down we will be able to assess the damage and have more of an idea how long he will be out for. We are hoping that it is more bruising than a major fracture and it is always a concern when a player is down for that length of time.”
