Steve Davis says players are thiriving in front of bigger crowd

Crewe Alexandra play host to the current League One leaders Tranmere Rovers tomorrow afternoon and boss Steve Davis is hoping the Alex fans will be out in force again as they were against Notts County and Coventry City to make it another super atmosphere at the Stadium.

Ronnie Moore’s Tranmere side arrive in South Cheshire top of the league after winning three and drawing one of their opening games of the season, but Davis wants his players to build some real momentum after winning 1-0 against Coventry last weekend.

Davis is looking forward to another high-profile game at Gresty Road: “Ronnie has got them going and they have made a great start. They have won three and drew one. I’ve been to watch them a couple of times and they pass the ball well and have good players.

“It should be another decent game in front of a decent crowd. I hear they are going to be bringing good support and our fans have been brilliant so far. The atmosphere for the two home games has been very good.

“It is always good to welcome the league leaders at whatever stage of the season and it will be a good test for the players. There is a long way to go but Tranmere will rightly be full of confidence.

“We had a terrific result and performance against Coventry and we have to try and build on that. It would be great to have back-to-back victories and keep that momentum going.”
