Davis reveals that Osman wasn't quit ready to return at Pompey

Steve Davis has revealed to the club’s official web-site that Abdul Osman was left out of the Crewe squad for the trip to Portsmouth because he needed more time to regain his sharpness. The combative midfielder travelled to the South Coast as the spare man but was not included in the 18-man squad after participating in just two days of training.

Osman suffered an ankle injury against Leyton Orient on 22nd September and only returned to full training a couple of days before the trip to Fratton Park.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Abdul did travel with us to Portsmouth but we just thought it was too soon for him. He only returned to training on the Wednesday before he left for Portsmouth and after speaking to our physio (Rob Sharp) he just felt he needed a bit more time before we could consider him again.

He added: “We just wanted to give him some time to get that real sharpness back and for him to get that confidence and touch back out on the training ground. An extra week on the training ground will have done him good and he comes back into our plans for the weekend.”
