Steve Davis to wait for right calibre of player

Steve Davis continues to look for the right reinforcements on loan to help his young squad. The Alex boss and his coaching staff have worked tirelessly trying to convince experienced players to come and fight for the Crewe Alexandra cause. The Alex boss has made it clear that he only wants the right calibre of player who is prepared to come to Gresty Road and give their all for the Crewe shirt.

Crewe ran the rule over the Bournemouth defender Stephane Zubar in the week to see if the 27 year-old fitted the bill, but Davis decided not to pursue the matter as the centre-half was not fully match fit. Zubar played for the club’s Under-21 side on Monday evening before returning to the south coast.

Steve is still searching for the right players that will help the club going forward and won’t be forced into a loan deal that doesn’t suit all parties.

Steve told crewealex.net: “We have all being working hard on trying to get one or two in. There are some irons in the fire but I won’t do anything unless it is right for us. I won’t rush into something if it won’t benefit the squad going forward. I want some fighters, who are prepared to come to a club that is bottom of the league and fight for the cause.

“We are trying to get the best in that is available to us. It is difficult but I can assure everyone that we are doing our best.

“I want players with a bit of experience, who have some sort of track record of playing at this level or possibly higher. I think players will that type of experience would help us more than say a promising youngster from a Premier League or Championship club.

“I would be happy to bring in a 21-year-old if I thought he was better than our own young players because when they come in on loan you have to play them as much as you can really. Their clubs only let them out to do that.

 The boss added: “We will keep trying and we will wait for the right ones to come along because we need ones who will make a difference to us. Those who have cracked this league before will obviously have a better chance of doing that again and that is what we have been looking for.”
