Ellington to get a chance with International week coming up

Steve Davis says experienced striker Nathan Ellington will be handed a chance to impress soon. Ellington signed this time week in time to travel with the squad to Colchester but was an unused substitute as Crewe got back to winning ways with a 2-1 win.

Ellington may have been in line for his Crewe debut against Sheffield United on Tuesday night before the match was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

Ellington, 31, will certainly be involved again against Shrewsbury tomorrow with the Crewe boss suggesting that the former Wigan Athletic hit-man will get an opportunity to stake his claim, especially with Max Clayton and Mathias Pogba set to miss games on International duty.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Nathan has been really good ever since he came in and has been a real breath of fresh air around the place. He had given everyone a lift and will be in contention again tomorrow. He will probably be on the bench again but we’ll see.

“He will certainly get a chance and soon, because we will be without Max on Tuesday for MK Dons and then Mathias joins up with Guinea after that as well.

He added: “Nathan has scored goals throughout his career and he will be looking to do the same here. He will be looking to make the right impact and he could the right person to slot in and be that clinical striker we have been looking for all season.”
