Door Open For Lee

Steve says it is up to Molyneux to grab his chance

Steve Davis has stressed that the door is very much open for Lee Molyneux to stake his claim for a place in his first-team squad. The former Everton, Southampton and Accrington Stanley left-footer has returned from a successful loan spell with his former club Accrington and has made some promising performances in the pre-season.

Molyneux, 25, has made just nine appearances for Crewe following his switch in the summer of 2013 but he has been handed a fresh start to try and prove that he can make the step up into League One.

Lee, who scored six goals out on loan with Accrington, threatened the Wolves goal twice in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat. He flashed a shot just wide after collecting a pass from Ollie Turton and he also forced Carl Ikeme into a fine one-handed save after a snap shot from the edge of the box.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Lee certainly gave us more balance on the left hand side when he came on for Chris (Atkinson).

“He has a shot just wide of the post which was a bit unlucky and he also forced their goalkeeper into a good save. I thought Lee did okay, he was fine.

“He has worked hard in pre-season training since he came back and he is determined to prove himself and that he can play at this level. He has a chance of being involved in the team as anybody else.”
