Crewe Alex won for the first time in 16 matches to ensure Doncaster Rovers will join them in League Two next season, at Gresty Road on Saturday.

Callum Ainley’s first for the club and a 10th for both Marcus Haber and Brad Inman finally earned the Railwaymen’s seventh success of the campaign.

Tommy Rowe had given Darren Ferguson’s men the lead but they were undone by one of the better Alex displays of the season and now face the drop too.

CREWE Alexandra recorded only their seventh win of the season as they came back from 1-0 down to beat Doncaster Rovers at Gresty Road, a scoreline that will almost certainly see the two sides meet again next season.

It was Crewe's first win in 15 attempts since February, and was only the fourth time the Alex fans had seen their side win at home since March 2015.

Tommy Rowe handed the visitors the lead in the 28th minute, but Crewe levelled just before the break through Callum Ainley.

They were much the better side after the break, taking the lead through Marcus Haber just before the hour, before Brad Inman made it safe just before the end with a terrific strike from the edge of the box.

An awful collapse at bottom side Crewe virtually consigned Doncaster Rovers to relegation to League Two.

Doncaster went in desperate search of a way back into the game but a late strike from Bradden Inman sealed the Railwaymen’s first win in 16 games and left Rovers relying only on a Fleetwood defeat to Walsall on Monday and then a very unlikely goal difference swing to save them.
