Boss says attitude and application has seen the club's Under-21s reach the final

Steve Davis is delighted that the club’s Under-21 side has progressed through to the final of the Professional Development League Two following an emphatic 4-0 win over Cardiff City at their stadium.

The Crewe youngsters will now take on Queens Park Rangers after they defeated Huddersfield in their own semi-final.

The Alex boss told crewealex.net: “I am delighted for the Under-21s and for all the hard work that James Collins and Neil Baker have put in. They controlled the game in Cardiff and even when they lost George Ray through a red card with 25 minutes left they still went on and scored another two goals.

“It has been a great experience for them and I think the experience of our players has helped. They handled it better and were not fazed about going down to Cardiff and playing at their Stadium. I’m sure it was the first time that some of their lads had even played at the Stadium before.

“That goes to show the importance of having that experience and I think it made a difference in the performance. They were clear winners and it has been a great effort by everyone. Their attitude and application has been first class all season and that is why they have been able to reach the final.

“They have approached it in the right way and have now got their reward with a final to look forward to.”
