Steve looking to add competition and cover to his squad

Steve Davis could re-enter the loan market for two or three more players to give his Crewe Alexandra squad a lift as we enter the second month of the season.

The Alex boss is remaining patient to make sure that he bring in quality over quantity and he is still seeking another natural winger and forward. He may also look at bringing in another centre-half as extra cover for the injured Harry Davis and George Ray, who is currently away on International duty.

Of course, Crewe had a scare in that position last week when Ray suffered a nasty facial injury against Bolton. Thankfully, the Wales Under-21 International recovered in time to face Gillingham on Saturday. If Ray hadn’t been able to play, Crewe would have been short in that department with just Adam Dugdale, Jon Guthrie and the inexperienced Perry NG available.

Steve told crewealex.net: “We would like to bring in one or two reinforcements if we can. If would give us a lift and offer competition in certain positions. We haven’t been able to find a replacement for Byron (Moore) after he turned down our offer in the summer.

“We lost Byron and it is difficult to go out and find better than him. We are after a player who can give us that thrust from the wing. It would just give us another option. It would be the same with a centre-forward. We are relying on Marcus (Haber) to score the goals and we need more than just him doing that.”

He added: “We have one or two in mind but they have not been made available as yet. If that changes then we would we do our best to do something.”
