Davis On Johnson's Tykes

Alex boss expects proper football contest at Oakwell.

Steve Davis is expecting a proper football contest when he takes his Crewe Alexandra side back to his former club tomorrow. Davis spent seven seasons with the Tykes and helped he club reach the Premier League in 1997 before injury hampered his own dream of playing in the top flight.

The Crewe Alexandra boss is looking forward to another return to Oakwell to see some familiar faces and he has been a keen admirer of the work achieved by their boss Lee Johnson.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “It is always good for me to go back to my former clubs and I had some great years at Barnsley. It is always a good atmosphere at Oawell and it will be nice for me to go back and see some old faces again.

“Barnsley are a good football team under Lee (Johnson). He has proper footballers and they are play a certain style of football. They are pleasing on the eye and it should be a good football match.

“They probably haven’t got the results that their football has deserved so in that respect they have been a bit like us at times this season. They have dominated some games this season but not picked up as many points as they would have liked.

“He has a remit to play good, entertaining football and they will stick to their principles under Lee, so it should be a good game.

He added: “We have picked up some decent results at Shrewsbury and Walsall, who were flying and couldn’t have gone top on the day, so there is no reason why we can’t go there and get a result.”
