Davis: "I Chose Not To Bring One In"

27 March 2015

Promising news on Garratt injury meant Steve didn't add goalkeeper before ultimate deadline

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis admits he moved for another goalkeeper as cover for Paul Rachubka but elected against it when the goalkeeper was called up for International duty. The Crewe boss was also handed the news that his previous number one Ben Garratt is well on the road to recovery after his follow-up scan revealed that the fractured bone in his leg has healed. It is hoped that Garratt, 20, will be back sooner than expected to play a part before the end of the season.

Steve told crewealex.net: “We made some enquiries about a possible goalkeeper, one in particular but he was away on International duty and would have missed this weekend and most possibly the Crawley game, so I chose not to do that.

“The scan on Ben was also positive so we could have been back for the remaining three or four games of the season, so I didn’t want the situation where I had three goalkeepers.

“If Paul was to get injured or suspended then we can get another one in or recall Scott (Shearer) so we are not left without one.

“I didn’t look to bring in any outfield players because I have five loans already and would have to leave one out to play them. That can disrupt the squad and leave an unpleasant taste around the place and we don’t need that with eight games left.

He added: “The ones we have here know the job they have to do and that is to win enough games to stay up. There are plenty of points to go for and it is up to us to achieve it.”
