Davis Hoping To Resolve Stewart Future

25 November 2014

Crewe Alexandra hoping a deal can be concluded for Stewart

Steve Davis is hoping that the club can come to an agreement with Wycombe Wanderers regarding the future of defender Anthony Stewart. The 22-year-old centre-half is trying to get back playing after he chose not to accept Wycombe’s offer of a new contract.

Due to his age, the League Two club are entitled to training compensation if another club signs him and Davis will be looking to avoid a tribunal scenario.

Davis believes that Stewart could be one for the future as he looks to reinforce his squad with a number of defensive players out in the summer.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We are trying to come to an agreement with Anthony and his club Wycombe. He just wants to play again and we hope we can work something out to suit everyone.

“Wycombe are entitled to compensation and we respect that.

“He is a good player and we are looking ahead because we have a number of players out on contract in the summer. He is an athletic, quick and powerful young player. There is something there to work with and we believe he has got something.

He added: “Hopefully we can come to some agreement and we can continue to be pro-active going forward.”
